The repetition of the same tired lyrics over and over drive me up the wall. I change the station immediately when I hear it. The AutoTuner and other software used to create some of the effects just makes him sound like a broken record-singing robot.

2.0 out of 5 stars But I'm a Cheerleader!, August 2, 2009

"You Belong With Me" is Taylor Swift's latest sugary contribution to the country genre. Forget June Carter Cash, Tammy Wynette, Patsy Cline, or even the self-proclaimed redneck Gretchen Wilson-- it's time for the country genre to fit the iTunes/High School Musical generation. It's a Disneyesque take on a love triangle-- Taylor is the tomboy, the boy she's smitten with is dating the cheerleader. Ironically, there's more focus on the cheerleader rival ("she wears high heels, I wear jeans") then on the boy in question. Is Katy Perry going to do a remake of this one, like she did with Jill Sobule's song?

"You Belong With Me" has an adolescent take on longing. It's got the depth of the rivalry between Ashley Tisdale and Vanessa Hudgens in HSM. One would also end up thinking, ironically, that perhaps the narrator is longing for the cheerleader. It's bland, forgettable country music--or what passes for country these days.

As for Taylor Swift collaborating with Def Leppard on the country show Crossroads--I didn't know Def Leppard was country. Why didn't anybody tell me?
